Making Sprig Molds

02-23-2019 9:30 am -1:00 pm

2017 portrait 72Gail Russell (owner of Peachblow Pottery) has worked with the decorative technique of sprigging for over 30 years. All of her sprig molds are handmade, either carved by hand or impressed from a variety of found objects (antique lace, floral patterns on antique silver, real nuts or seeds, etc.). One of her favorite motifs is the acorn. Her acorns are wheel thrown, one-of-a-kind, and are finished and detailed by hand. Each is individual in form and color, as in nature.

In this class Gail will demonstrate methods for creating wheel-thrown and sprig adornments. Gail will bring many of her molds and you will be given a leather-hard piece to decorate with sprigs you will make in class. You will also create your own sprig mold from small items you bring to class (you can take with and fire at home or leave with us and we’ll bisque fire for you).
